WSCS (Women’s Society of Christian Service) turned 12 this year and held its AGM on 24 August, passing the leadership to a new team. Our goal - to connect women, to enable them to grow in friendship, deepen their relationship with God and to serve alongside the church - remains unchanged. Pastor Jenni Ho-Huan, our invited speaker, delivered an inspiring message on the role of women in the growth of the church.

At the AGM, the WSCS activities organized for HVMC women in 2023/24 were highlighted: -

In December 2023, WSCS arranged an ice-cream cart and a coffee stall at the church communion lunch to mark our Thanksgiving event. There was also a contemplative art workshop where participants shared their reflections on God’s presence through painting and sketches.

We joined hands with our Filipino sisters to source, sort out and pack donations of pre-loved items in preparation for their Christmas bazaar. Over a period of three weeks, clothes, jewellery and household items were collected for re-gifting.

Ladies connected through a Nyonya tea at Princess Terrace at the Copthorne King’s Hotel in March 2024. It was a heart-warming event, filled with games and laughter.

We worked jointly with our sister church, Barker Road Methodist Church, to supply floral decorations for a large concert featuring the band, City Alight. Our modest floral team learnt so much from theirs. Skills were further sharpened through an outreach event, “Floral Jamming”, where ACS (International) parents were invited to learn with our floral stewards.

Another joint event was the Culinary Wellness Workshop, which focused on learning to make good choices for healthy living. Participants learnt interesting facts about harmful ingredients in seasonings, canned food and even types of oil.

There was an intentional shift in our Ministry to support HVMC’s outreach to ACS (International). Our ladies were encouraged to attend Parent Support Group and the Student Study Night Prayer Support sessions, and to provide food for their events.

To end the term, the last event was a calming and reflective spiritual retreat led by Renata Tan and Koh Ai Jin, entitled “Heart of Simplicity”. It was very well attended by young mothers and working women.
