More Than Mere Mooncakes
On the evening of 9 September 2022, the Outreach & Social Concerns and the Witness & Evangelism Ministries organised a Mid-Autumn event attended by some 40 participants, made up of students from ACS (International) and their friends, our neighbourhood community and church members.
Our group of 12, who are currently attending the HVMC Disciple 1 course, had been on the look-out for a meaningful event to participate in, in response to the call to enter the ministry of making disciples (Matthew 25), so we were glad for the opportunity to be involved.
The event started with dinner, followed by worship and a sermon by Pastor Jeremy Ong (in Mandarin, no less!) on Creation, Love and Reunion. After that, we had a time of fellowship over tea and mooncakes, recalling God’s blessings, as we strolled along with our lighted lanterns.
We were glad for the opportunity to reach out to a wide range of guests. For example, some of us were able to interact with our neighbours and seniors by serving them their meals and helping them move around. We also managed to converse with the students and their friends about their studies and future plans. Others had invited their pre-believing friends and we were able to show them God’s love and joy through service and over fellowship.
This small yet warm event, celebrating God’s blessings and providence, helped us realise that we can continue celebrating cultural traditions while still honouring God, as He has given us platforms, such as these, to honour our elders and remind us to take the time to come together as a community.
