The Nations at Our Doorstep
By Benjamin Quek (School Ministry)
As the school year in ACS (International) continues, so does the work of partnering with God as He works in the lives of the students, staff and parents. May we see the many opportunities God has given us, as a church planted right where the nations are gathered!
International Day
As part of the yearly celebration on 8th August, right before National Day, members of the Parent Support Partners (PSP), all dressed in ethnic costumes, set up booths featuring cuisines from different countries. HVMC, as part of our Support Strategy, provided 400 cups of bubble tea at the event. Can you picture this? Members of different nations right here at our doorstep! May our hearts be stirred to see how God has chosen us to be planted right at ACS (International) and may we be able to perceive God’s call for our church!
Choice to Run
For this year’s annual charity run, on 24 August, organized by the School, HVMC had a breakthrough: 13 youths from our Youth Ministry participated for the very first time. We pray that from a young age, our youths will begin to see for themselves, the nations in their own generation right in front of them. As Pastor Jeremy has said before, “We must reach our own generation.” We pray God will move the hearts of the youths as the frequency and touchpoints between our church and the School increase.
Lunchtime Alpha
From July – October, the Witness & Evangelism Ministry, in collaboration with the School Ministry Team, ran our inaugural lunchtime Alpha sessions for the students. An average of 12 students have been attending, four of whom are unbelievers.
It is heartening to see them returning week after week, especially those who have yet to believe! We give thanks to God that we, the Alpha Team, are able to see up close the work of God in their hearts.
Some started off as skeptics and are now convinced by the Bible of the reality of God. Others are taking steps closer to the saving knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ, such as questioning whether the stand that they are taking is on sinking sand or solid ground. We pray for them to take that step of faith and enter the Kingdom of God!
Study Nights
Study Nights run from end September to early November, every Tuesday and Thursday night. This provides an opportunity for our members to present the Year 4 and 6 students with the gift of prayer and presence, and for us to also be up close and personal with the students to hear and see them through any stress or struggles they may be facing.
Throughout this article, I have intentionally used the word “see” repeatedly. I pray fervently that God will help us to see as He sees - our role, responsibility and opportunity to fulfil the Great Commission, where He has placed us.
