A Journey of Faith & Service

At HVMC, we are blessed to have individuals whose lives reflect God’s faithfulness and calling. Seng Peng joined us as Operations Executive in 2024, and here, he shares his journey of faith, his role at HVMC and his heart for serving God and the community.

Q: Tell us how you came to HVMC.
A: I joined HVMC as an intern in August 2023, seeking to discern God’s call to full-time ministry. Taking that step of faith was both exciting and daunting as I sensed God calling me to serve Him in a greater capacity, but I had many doubts about how He could use me for ministry work. My previous work experience was in social services, serving persons with special needs, and later as a project manager in the construction industry, all of which seemed so different from what full-time ministry demanded.

God reminded me of the story of Samuel in 1 Samuel 3:1-10, where he learns to listen to God’s voice. Samuel’s openness to hearing God and his willingness to let God speak into his life became a powerful example for me. With each act of faith and obedience, Samuel’s faith grew, and God worked in and through his life.

Similarly, I sensed God challenging me to trust Him fully, to listen for His voice and it has been an incredibly encouraging experience to walk in step with God, witnessing His grace and mercy each day. John 3:30 has been my constant reminder: “He must increase, but I must decrease.” It’s been humbling to know that all glory belongs to Him.

Q: What is your role as Operations Executive in HVMC, and what excites you about it?
A: In October 2024, I transitioned to full-time ministry as the Operations Executive at HVMC. In this role, I work alongside our staff team and volunteers to ensure the smooth running of the weekly services. Much of my work takes place behind the scenes, handling operational, administrative and IT matters for the church.

I’m especially excited about the upcoming renovation of our Chapel and the building of a new primary school. I believe these projects will create new opportunities to serve and reach out to ACS (International) and the wider community. While the ongoing construction may bring some temporary inconvenience, it is my prayer that God will open our eyes to the exciting work He is doing through HVMC, and inspire us to participate wholeheartedly in His mission!

Q: Can you share a bit about your faith journey?
A: I grew up in a non-Christian household. My older brother and I both became Christians through the ministry of the Boys’ Brigade in secondary school. The weekly Christian Education lessons were our first exposure to God’s word, and they deeply impacted us. We continue to pray and trust God for my mother’s salvation.

Q: What do you enjoy doing outside of ministry?
A: I love taking long walks in nature, swimming, hand-lettering Bible verses and solving large Rubik’s cubes- it’s a great way to relax and challenge my mind! I also serve as a lay counsellor at my home church, Faith Methodist Church (FMC), journeying with others through their life transitions.

Q:  How does it feel to be a part of the HVMC Staff team?
A: I’m excited to be part of a church that is deeply committed to God’s mission. From the staff team to the congregation, there’s a strong sense of purpose and love for the community. I’m grateful for the opportunity to contribute, and I look forward to seeing how God will continue to move in and through HVMC.
