Hearts & Crafts

With our busy schedules, it can be challenging to find time to bond with our children. HVMC’s Children Ministry has been organizing activities to create  opportunities for parents to connect with their children in a fun setting. The most recent activity was a napkin decoupage workshop on 28 May 2022.

Let’s hear from the participants!

Edric & Olivia

Olivia: I am very grateful to Auntie Yee Lan for taking part of her Saturday to teach us how to make designs on bags. The patterns were very cute and I enjoyed the class. I learned a new skill and spent a nice morning with my dad.

Levanne & Elsa

Elsa: It’s very simple to do and very fun and I can spend alone time with mummy and design a bag for my grandma. My grandma likes the bag very much. She says it’s so pretty and thought we had bought it.

Levanne: It’s really difficult in our busy everyday life to find one-to-one time with each kid so I’m really grateful for this activity to spend meaningful time with Elsa while doing something fun together. Through the activity, I also discovered the strengths of my daughter and bonded with her.

Ivy & Halley

Ivy: Halley enjoyed the session. She eagerly wanted to do everything, but when she realized that cutting the delicate napkin wasn't easy, handed the task over to me. The instructor was very patient, whereas we were both trying to quickly finish to be able to see the end product. 😂

Jonas & Sarah

Jonas: Making the bag with mum was fun! We used teamwork to create a very nice bag. We chose a doggie pattern in memory of our late dog Sasha. During the session, I found out more about my mum, like why she admires my grandmother – it was because Grammy raised the family all by herself when Grandpa died and mummy was still very young.

Sarah: It was a meaningful and precious time spent with Jonas. Yee Lan was a wonderfully patient and encouraging teacher. She used such simple materials and transformed them into such beautiful works of art. A timely reminder that the simple things we do with our children can build special bonds and precious memories.

Diana with her 3 girls

Diana: I am grateful for the rare opportunity to attend the workshop with my three girls. It was our first time bonding over craft and it was not just enjoyable, but also meaningful. The girls were all happy to leave with their own personalised bags. We are grateful that all the materials were provided and instructions delivered simply and clearly.
