Building for Transformation
By Ps Jeremy Ong
Pastor-in-Charge
We began 2025 with a sermon series on the Old Testament book of Ezekiel, launching our journey of transformation and renewal. Ezekiel vividly captures God’s power to bring life and hope to even the most desolate circumstances. Through visions like the valley of dry bones, Ezekiel illustrates how God breathes new life into what was once dead, delivering a profound message of restoration and renewal. This aligns with our church’s direction for 2025: to trust in God’s power to transform us individually, and as a church family, for His glory and purposes.
VISION
“Nourished to Flourish: Building Up & Reaching Out to Every Generation.”
Three Year Directions from 2024 - 2026
2024 - Building Up to Reach Out (Equipped to Share the Gospel & be Welcoming)
2025 - Building Up for Transformation (Connected to Life Groups & Serving in HVMC)
2026 - Reaching Out to Every Generation (Released to be Disciples who make Disciples)
Our vision is anchored in John 15:5 (NIV): “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” This verse reminds us that our ability to flourish stems from remaining deeply rooted in Christ, enabling us to bear fruit. Building on the Discipleship Roadmap and Witness & Evangelism Toolkit launched in 2024, we now focus on transformation through Beholding God’s glory, Obeying God’s call, and Following God’s direction.
Have we, as a church, lost this sense of wonder?
Can we renew our worship and rediscover the awe of being in God’s presence?
Beholding God’s Glory
Ezekiel’s vision of God’s glory challenges us to recapture the awe of worship. Ezekiel’s response - falling face down in reverence (Ezekiel 1:28) - reminds us that worship is not about routine but about encountering the majesty of a living God. Have we, as a church, lost this sense of wonder? Can we renew our worship and rediscover the awe of being in God’s presence?
Our monthly Prayer and Worship Nights will remain a key way for us to gather to worship and intercede for our community. These unhurried moments allow us to surrender to God and reconnect to “the vine”. This year, let’s challenge ourselves to attend more regularly - perhaps once every two months - to grow together in prayer and worship.
In 2025, HVMC will also undertake a significant project to redesign and upgrade our worship space. This is not merely about aesthetics but about creating a space that lifts our hearts and minds toward God. Symbols like stained glass windows can draw our focus during singing and moments of reflection, while the central placement of the cross serves as a reminder of Christ’s redemption. Partnering with ACS (International), we will seek feedback to design a space that directs us to behold God’s majesty and imbibe a sacred atmosphere.
Success lies not in results but in obedience.
Obeying God’s Call
Ezekiel’s faithfulness in delivering God’s message, despite its difficulty, underscores a critical lesson: success lies not in results but in obedience. Similarly, as we remain committed to our mission to reach ACS (International), our focus is on faithfully sharing the Gospel with love and gentleness, trusting God to bring transformation.
This year, we challenge every member of HVMC to participate faithfully in ministry through “our prayers, our presence, our gifts and our service”. Life Groups provide spaces for authentic relationships, spiritual growth and accountability. Over the past few years, we have seen how Life Groups have strengthened bonds within the congregation and profoundly impacted individuals and families. Whether you are new to HVMC or have been with us for years, there is a place for you in Life Groups and ministry. Joining these communities is not merely an opportunity to serve, but a chance to grow, connect and be part of God’s transformative work.
To guide us in this journey of transformation, we will explore the following sermon series:
Sermon Series for 2025
Ezekiel (Jan to Feb) | Transformation of our Hearts |
---|---|
The Apostles’ Creed (Mar to Apr) | Transformation of our Worship |
God and Family (May) | Transformation of our Families |
Ephesians (Aug to Sep) | Transformation of our Minds |
God and Work (Oct to Nov) | Transformation of our Work |
Through these series, we will deepen our understanding of how God transforms every aspect of our lives, from our hearts and families to our worship and work.
Together, we will build this vision, living out our unity and shared purpose, creating a beautiful picture of what the church represents.
Following God’s Direction
Ezekiel’s obedience extended to performing symbolic acts that communicated God’s message to the Israelites living in exile. These acts, though unconventional, carried profound meaning. As we pieced the HVMC Puzzle together on the first Sunday of 2025, the exercise symbolised our building of HVMC together, with each puzzle piece representing each person’s unique part in God’s plan of transformation for HVMC. Together, we will build this vision, living out our unity and shared purpose, creating a beautiful picture of what the church represents. Even as the puzzle reveals missing pieces, it reminds us of God’s ongoing work, urging us to invite others to join in completing His vision.
Church Camp 2025, to be held in Batam this June, will be a pivotal moment for our church family. The theme of the conference is our direction for 2025, Building Up for Transformation and Ps Lip Yong from Life Church will be the plenary speaker. This camp promises to be more than just another event—it is a divine appointment to reconnect with God and one another. Come expectantly, ready to be inspired, challenged and renewed. Registration is now open on our website, and we encourage everyone to register early. Join us as we act out our unity in Christ and prepare for the transformative work ahead. I pray this camp will be the watershed moment where we awaken to the powerful call of God upon our lives and our church.
Beholding, Obeying and Following… Together
Ezekiel’s vision calls us to Behold God’s glory, Obey God’s call, and Follow God’s direction with faithfulness. In 2025, HVMC’s vision for transformation invites us to live out these imperatives as individuals, families, ministries and as a church. Together, we will build a disciple-making church that reverences God’s majesty, advances His kingdom, and nurtures His people. Let us commit together to make 2025 a year where each of us contributes to this transformative journey, trusting God for what He will accomplish in and through us.
A transformed people for God’s glory. The Best Is Yet To Be! Amen.
