Church & School Get Closer

By Terril Tan & Mun Kwok On

HVMC Welcomes New ACS (International) Students

Holland Village Methodist Church (HVMC) started 2025 with a warm welcome for new ACS (International) students and their parents on 2nd January. Held at the Student Centre, this event provided an opportunity for students and their families to connect with the HVMC community and the school’s Parents Support Partners (PSP) in an informal setting. The event was supported by over fifteen volunteers from HVMC's Youth Ministry, enthusiastic ACS alumni currently attending HVMC, our Christian and Lay Ministry Staff, students from the Christian fellowship, and parents from PSP and Parents Prayer Group.

The event raised awareness about HVMC's ministry within ACS (International) and facilitated meaningful conversations. The positive interactions allowed the HVMC representatives to answer questions about our church and its role in the school community, and to build relationships with the new student cohort and their family members.

Eunice Chong, an HVMC member, expressed, “It’s such a refreshing experience to engage in conversation with the parents and students, to let them know about our church’s presence and the school’s strong partnership with us.” She commented that the majority of them were open, welcoming and eager to know more about our church activities.

HVMC Extends a Warm Welcome to ACS (International) Staff

Building on the momentum of the successful outreach to new students, HVMC continued its efforts with two more events. On 13th January, the church hosted a coffee fellowship in the staff lounge, providing a welcome respite and opportunity for connection, as staff prepared for the new school year. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee and the warm fellowship created a welcoming atmosphere.

The following day, on the 14th, a special welcome was extended to new ACS (International) staff members, allowing the church community to connect with the new teachers, helping them feel at home in the ACS family.

One of the new staff, Samuel, commented, “I felt the warmth during the breakfast meeting. It is a good time to get to know fellow staff and members of the church who continue to bless the school. I look forward to a fruitful year ahead in this community!"

Looking Ahead: Strengthening Ties with ACS (International)

The January outreach events were just the first steps in HVMC's ongoing commitment to connect with the staff and students of ACS (International). We recognize that building a thriving community takes time and dedication, but we are encouraged by the promise of Romans 8:28: "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." This verse reminds us that as followers of Christ, our love is expressed through action and obedience to His Word.

As we look ahead in 2025, we invite the entire HVMC family to join us in this important mission. Let us work together to reach out to the ACS (International) community, sharing God's love and building meaningful relationships. Inspired by the ACS motto, "The Best Is Yet To Be!", we approach the year with faith and anticipation, trusting that God will use our efforts to bring about His good purpose.

To God be the Glory!
